About Roots Memphis

Roots Memphis is an urban farm located at Shelby Farms Park. We have 3 acres in production growing vegetables, herbs and flowers. All of the Roots Memphis farmers are participants in our Farm Academy, in which we teach adults to own and operate sustainable, profitable farm businesses. Roots Memphis works to grow the Memphis local food economy by training, developing and launching new farmers and increasing local food access for all Memphians. We believe business can and should be focused on a triple bottom line of people, planet and profit.

Roots Memphis is a startup non-profit, an incubator for sustainable farm businesses, and a local food hub supporting new and beginning farmers in Memphis, TN.

Desired Skills for Fellow

Roots Memphis Fellows must have flexibility, ingenuity and persistence. The ideal candidate must be passionate about sustainable agriculture and local food. The individual should be organized, an excellent communicator, and able to execute directives while also being a creative problem solver and self-starter. Some experience in graphic design, marketing and public relations is an asset. Personal transportation is necessary. We’re looking for proactive and passionate problem solvers. No farm experience necessary. Curiosity, drive, motivation, and a sense of humor are required.

Fellow Responsibilities

The Fellow will work closely with the Director of Marketing and Outreach to create and maintain sales relationships. The Fellow will have an important role in coordinating and ensuring the continued success of the Roots Memphis Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. From aggregating produce to delivering CSAs and fostering relationships, the fellow will be an integral part of our produce sales team. Additionally, the Fellow will be responsible for creating and executing marketing strategies.
