29 Jul Week 7, July 14 – July 21
This is the true story, of ten strangers picked to live at the south bluffs. Have their lives shaped, to find out what happens when people graduate and start getting real. This is the Temple Israel Fellowship. Now the ten strangers that have quickly become a tight knit group have been spending week seven enjoying the last few weeks we have as summer is quickly coming to an end.
On Friday, we had a discussion with both Rabbi Adam Grossman and Dr. Scott Morris, the founder of the Church Health Center, on wellness. This really hit home for me not only because I am interning at the Church Health Center this summer but also actually got to hear the history of how it all began and how it all operates. I believe it was a meaningful experience for everyone to understand that there are multiple levels of wellness and the importance of not only the more obvious choices like physical activity and nutrition but faith.
On Sunday the fellows enjoyed meeting with attorney Marvin Ballin and listening to his experience as growing up as a Jewish professional in Memphis. Being either a native Memphian or not, there was a lot to learn from him about the Jewish history in Memphis and how much it has expanded from a small area downtown to way out east where most of us locals call home. We finished off the weekend by having a nice dinner at Rabbi Grossman’s house sharing our professional experiences with each other, even learning about Rabbi Adam’s DJing that he used to do.
With the last couple of week’s approaching, we hope to get in everything we can. Memphis has a lot to offer us and we want to be able to explore every possibility, including becoming regulars at Bardog, really that’s just mine but it has basically happened. We can’t wait for next week!
