21 Jul Week 6, July 7 – July 14
The end of 4th of July weekend brought a start to the second half of the fellowship with our busiest week yet!
Tuesday we went to the beautiful Dixon gardens for a professional development workshop sponsored by the New Memphis institute. We learned a lot about our own strengths and weaknesses. As “yo pros” trying to make it in the working world, learning how to be both “thinkers” and “feelers” is crucial to success.
The New Memphis institute sponsored a corporate breakfast on Thursday morning. The leadership breakfast featured a panel of three FedEx executives who shared their success stories and stressed the importance of ambition. 4 cups of coffee later (it was a 7:30am breakfast), we can now say we know what it takes to be a true leader—lots of hard work and determination.
On Friday night we had a delicious Shabbat dinner hosted by fellows Lauren, Hannah and Jessie. After a lot of BBQ brisket and Ricki’s challah, Rabbi Micah surprised us with a short but sweet visit to the South Bluffs, followed by a night out on the town.
The rest of the weekend was filled with lots of Memphian activities. We finally ventured out to Shelby Farms, a unique part of Memphis city living. We were excited to engage in some fun outdoor activities, including canoeing out on the lake. While some of the fellows sang and paddled on the lake, a few others set out on a different adventure. They took an aviation lesion and adventurously flew a small plane. We ended Saturday night with a trip to the Levitt Shell for the finale of their summer series free concerts. In true red carpet style, we had a great night of schmoozing and live music in the VIP tent!
This summer is flying by too quickly. Although we’ve done quite a lot, we still have more sights to see in Memphis. Our last few weeks are sure to be jam packed with more adventures as we take advantage of all Memphis has to offer.
